Video Editor Resume: Examples (2026)

Video editors are hired on the reel, but post supervisors, producers and showrunners use the resume to decide whether the reel is worth three minutes. They look for the kind of content you cut (documentary, unscripted, scripted, commercials, social, corporate), the credits and runtimes, the software you work in every day, and signs that you handle the parts of post nobody sees: media management, notes rounds, deliverables and deadlines.

No license is required to work as a video editor, and producers hire from your reel and credits. Software certifications can help early in your career or when a posting names a specific system. These are run by the software makers:

• DaVinci Resolve certification for editors, colorists and sound editors, through the training program and online exams on Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve training page.
• Adobe Certified Professional in Premiere or After Effects, with exams listed on Adobe's certification site and delivered by Certiport.
• A film, television or media degree or program, listed under education. Many postings ask for a bachelor's degree or equal experience.

Selected credits: near the top, three credits with role, show type, episodes and years. The shows are described rather than named.

Experience: four editor bullets: 10 episodes of a 44-minute series, story built from 60 to 80 hours per episode with 3 notes rounds, 30+ branded videos for 9 clients, and clean deliverables. Two assistant bullets show up to 400 hours of footage a season and turnovers, which documentary producers value.

Education, certification and skills: his BFA, a DaVinci Resolve certification from 2025, and skills in posting words, led by story building.

• A reel that runs too long. A busy producer may stop watching early. Open with your best, most relevant work and keep it short.
• Naming unreleased shows or clients. Many productions require confidentiality. Describe the project until it airs or you have permission.
• Software lists with no context. Say which system is your main one and what you cut in it, not a list of every app you have opened.
• No runtimes or volume. A 30-second spot and a 44-minute episode are different jobs. Give the length and how many.
• Leaving out assistant work. Media management and deliverables prove you can keep a show on schedule. Keep those lines, even as an editor.
