Which example fits you?

Pick the line that sounds most like you. If two fit, start with the first one; each guide links to the others that overlap.

Resume questions people ask first

Which resume format should I use?

Reverse-chronological for most people: your most recent experience first. If you are changing careers or returning after a gap, use a combination format with a short skills section above your history. Avoid the skills-only functional format; recruiters distrust it and many applicant tracking systems read it poorly.

How long should my resume be?

One page unless you have more than about ten years of directly relevant experience. Students, recent graduates, first-job applicants and career changers should all fit on one page.

Do I need a different resume for every job?

You need a tailored one, not a new one. Keep the same history, and rewrite the headline, the summary and the order of your skills to match the words each posting uses. It takes about five minutes per application.

Are these guides and the resume builder free?

Yes. The guides are free to read, the builder works without an account, and the PDF download has no watermark on any plan. Each guide's example opens in the builder so you can start from it.

Who writes these guides?

Ahmad Tayyem, the founder of CVPoet. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed and is updated when hiring practice changes.
